About
Jacob is a professional engineer with a trade background spanning general, maritime, and aviation domains. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in mechanical engineering and a Bachelor of Science in environmental earth science. He is currently engaged in part-time studies in ANU's Master of Science (Advanced) in nuclear science program.
Jacob began his career in engineering as a fitter machinist and further applied his trade in the Australian Army's Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME), earning experience with amphibious maritime and rotary wing platforms. He earned the Australian Defence Medal and was awarded the 2016 National RAEME Craftsman of the Year for exemplifying the RAEME motto - Arte et Marte - before ending his service in 2018.
Jacob furthered his education at Macquarie University in 2019 where he realised a passion for science and engineering. After graduating, he developed his skills as a professional engineer with the Department of Defence - providing technical assurance and design oversight for complex systems acquisitions. He also served Engineers Australia as the Chairperson of the Systems Engineering Society of Australia Canberra Division between 2024 and 2025. Jacob has forged a deep, practical understanding of mechanical systems which he applies to his role as a systems engineering specialist at the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Advanced Instrumentation and Technology Centre (AITC).
