Building Connections Across Astralis
Astralis Day 2026 brought together 42 people from across the Astralis Instrumentation Consortium, including 14 staff from ANU's Advanced Instrumentation and Technology Centre (AITC).

While Astralis is known for designing and delivering cutting-edge astronomical instrumentation through its national partnership between ANU, Macquarie University and the University of Sydney, this day was all about the people behind the technology.

Making Time for Connection
Held at Scribbly Farm, Bowral, NSW, the day gave astronomers, engineers, technicians and professional staff the chance to step away from their usual work and connect in a different setting. Through team challenges, networking activities, a treasure hunt and a hands-on build challenge, participants forged new relationships, strengthened existing ones and shared ideas across institutions and disciplines.

Building Relationships for Future Collaboration
For AITC staff, the event offered a valuable opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the Astralis network. New friendships were formed, existing relationships strengthened, and ideas exchanged that may one day contribute to future scientific instruments and collaborations.

As Astralis continues its mission of keeping Australia at the forefront of astronomical instrumentation, events like Astralis Day remind us that great instruments are built by great teams.

For the ANU community, the strong presence of AITC staff helped showcase not only our technical expertise, but also the collaborative spirit that sits at the heart of both AITC and Astralis.

Sometimes the most important thing built in a day isn't an instrument at all. It's a connection.
