The highest point of my research was traveling to the Cerra Tololo Inter-American Observatory near La Serena in Chile. Nothing beats being at the telescope and observing your data, seeing the raw results straight from source.

RSAA attracts leading astronomers in many fields from all over the world, so there are so many people with great expertise to learn from, including visiting astronomers. There is a great sense of community, especially if you're a student.

Mt Stromlo is a fantastic community of people, all willing to talk about their own research and help you out if you need it. The Professors are world class and you have many opportunities to go to overseas conferences.

I'm not sure if I can pick just one highlight ! I have really appreciated being a member of a large team, the SAMI galaxy survey team, and receiving financial and other support from CAASTRO.
