RSAA Postdoctoral Fellow recipient of 2026 Wayfinder Award
Dr Karlie Noon, Postdoctoral Fellow within the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics has been named a 2026 recipient of the Wayfinder Award.
Noon is an astrophysicist, science communicator and advocate for Indigenous-led approaches to science and space exploration. A descendant of the Gamilaroi and Wiradjuri nations, she was the first Indigenous woman in Australia to earn degrees in both mathematics and physics. Her work combines astronomy, her culture and Indigenous knowledge systems from around the globe.
The Wayfinder Award presented by Kia is extended annually to 15 individuals who represent the next generation of influential leaders, communicators, and innovators whose critical work is driving forward the Society’s mission to illuminate and protect the wonder of our world.
From discovering novel microbes to bridging ancestral astronomical traditions with modern science, the 2026 recipients are recognised for pushing the boundaries in science, conservation,education, technology and storytelling.
This year’s cohort represents six continents from across the globe.
