Benjamin Widdup

Benjamin Widdup has over 20 years’ industry R&D experience working at the leading edge of optics, electronics and wireless communications. His work has spanned research, algorithm design, firmware development and software engineering, developing new technologies into robust commercial products. 

At Finisar, he contributed significantly to their Flexgrid wavelength selective switch, which received an Engineering Excellence Award. Benjamin is passionate about applying engineering discipline and industry best practices as he turns research ideas into working products. At ANU, he brings this industry perspective to the development of advanced astronomical instruments. 

Outside work, he enjoys keeping fit and inventing gadgets at home—some more useful than others.
