Description
In pursuit of realistic star formation histories from SED fitting

As we pursue explanations to the details of galaxy evolution through statistics and large galaxy surveys, both at low and high redshift, there is an ever growing demand for sophisticated SED fitting techniques. Not just the estimators for stellar mass and SFR they were originally designed to be, these techniques are today relied upon to extract the history of star formation. Doing this means implementing more physically motivated models. Beyond expanding the detail we derive, these more physical models ensure greater accuracy of the fundamental parameters like stellar mass. In this talk I will outline the developments made through the code ProSpect in terms of the underlying models, and present a characterisation of the biases introduced through various common assumptions. I will finally present the first results from a new technique that combines SED fitting with simultaneous structural analysis.
