Using SN free host spectra to improve spectral classification

The Australian Dark Energy Survey (OzDES) has obtained spectra of hundreds of transients that were discovered in the Dark Energy Survey. In many cases, the transient could not be identified accurately because of host galaxy light contaminating the spectra. OzDES is now taking spectra of these host galaxies without the transient. In this project, we’d like to see if we are able to classify transient that are as yet unidentified using a spectrum of the transient with the host and a spectrum of the host once the transient has faded from view.
