Simulating the impact of dust on distance estimates to type Ia supernovae

Type Ia supernovae are used to constrain the dark energy equation-of-state parameter. Over the past year, it has become clear that the current treatment of extinction from dust in supernova host galaxies is inadequate. This project will assess the impact dust has on estimating distances to supernovae using simulated supernova with and without extinction. This project is suitable as a summer project, and can be expanded to a larger project if required.

It is suitable for undergraduate/summer students.
