Is the universe getting more complex?

This is the question Dr Charley Lineweaver has tried to answer in his recent book Complexity and the Arrow of Time (edited with Dr Paul Davies and Professor Michael Ruse).

Fourteen contributing authors (physicists, biologist, complexity scientists and a theologian) came up with answers using a wide range of compatible definitions of complexity.

In this talk, and the Canberra launch of the Complexity and the Arrow of Time, Dr Lineweaver will review their contributions and discuss the universe complexity question from a cosmological point of view.

Dr Charley Lineweaver is the coordinator of the Planetary Science Institute at ANU.

Before his appointment at ANU, he held post-doctoral positions at Strasbourg Observatory and the University of New South Wales where he taught one of the most popular general studies courses, Are We Alone?

He was a member of NASA's Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) satellite team, led by George Smoot, that discovered the temperature fluctuations in the cosmic microwave background.

This talk is free but seats are limited so secure your spot here.

Copies of Complexity and the Arrow of Time will be available for sale on the night.
