Type Ia supernova play a pivotal role in efforts to constrain the properties of dark energy. While it is well known that the properties of Type Ia supernovae correlate with properties of galaxies that host them, the physical origin of these corrections is unknown. Most of these correlations have been derived from photometry. Spectra offer a richer dataset in which to explore these correlations and offer the possibility to better understand the physical link between the supernova and its host.
This project will use spectra from the OzDES survey to search for and characterise correlations between the properties of the supernovae and the properties derived from the spectra of the galaxies that host them.
