SkyMapper Collaboration Policy

derived from document: MSO-201-903-001-POL

SkyMapper welcomes applications for pre-release data access from external parties. The following document defines our pre-release data access policy.

  • Procedure for non-ANU parties to gain access to data during data characterisation period [period of approx. 18 months before First Data Release]:

    • Request is forwarded to Project Scientist for SkyMapper [Brian Schmidt]. Project Scientist will ensure that proposed data use does not encroach on the applications pursed by the Priority1 [Key Science] programs. The SkyMapper Science Group will be the forum for discussion. The Project Scientist will recommend to the RSAA Executive the reasons for and/or against creating a MOU with the external group.

    • Establish a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the external investigators and the School regarding the usage of data for specific purposes and authorship policy (inclusion of SkyMapper Development Group). RSAA Director will construct an MOU.

  • Access to non-survey observing time is restricted to ANU applicants. External parties will require a primary investigator [PI] within the University. The PI should devote a substantial amount of time to the program.
