The origins of Mount Stromlo Observatory

Between 2008 and 2012, a series on the rich early history of Australia's national capital was produced by ABC TV's /Stateline/7.30ACT/ program.   The segments, created by Dr David Headon, History and Heritage Adviser for the Centenary of Canberra Unit of the ACT Government, cover a period from 1890 to 1914.  Each segment explores a different aspect of Canberra's past, from tentative public discussion of a possible Federation of States to the establishment of the first Commonwealth infrastructure in the hitherto remote Limestone Plains region - an observatory at Mt Stromlo and a military college at Duntroon. Here we provide the segment on the observatory at Mt Stromlo.
