Professor Lawrence Krauss, who has been a regular visitor to ANU over the past several years, has officially joined the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics on a regular part-time basis.

Professor Krauss, who retains his appointments as Foundation Professor in the School of Earth and Space Exploration and Director of the Origins Project at Arizona State University, is a theoretical physicist who researches at the interface between particle physics and cosmology. The author of more than 300 scientific publications, he is also internationally known for his bestselling books, including A Universe from Nothing and The Physics of Star Trek.

“It is a pleasure and privilege to be able to spend time at Mount Stromlo and interact with wonderful colleagues here, as well as to be able to bring young researchers and other visitors with me to further enhance the vibrant intellectual environment here in theoretical physics and cosmology,” he said.

“I also look forward to continuing to reach out and positively impact on public education and interest in science in Australia.”

Professor Matthew Colless, Director of the Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, said he was delighted to welcome Professor Krauss to the School.

“Lawrence is a wonderful source of creativity and stimulation, both for researchers working on the frontiers of theoretical physics and cosmology, and for the wider public who value his untiring efforts to help them touch and understand those frontiers,” he said.

“He is joining a great tradition of public intellectuals at Mount Stromlo, from Bart Bok through to Brian Schmidt, who have shown that fundamental science connects with the wider world in ways that can inspire young people and inform us all.”
