The Joan Duffield Bequest has ensured her legacy and the connection of the Duffield family and Mt Stromlo Observatory continues long into the future. Joan Duffield’s father, Walter Geoffrey Duffield, was the founding Director of Mt Stromlo Observatory. Over the course of Joan’s long life she maintained a keen interest in the Observatory and ANU. In 1996 the Joan Duffield Postgraduate Scholarship Program was established and in 1999 Joan set up the Duffield Chair in Astronomy in honour of her father. Joan passed away in 2014 at the age of 104.
